Abstract
Hypertension is a condition where there is an increase in systolic blood pressure of more than or equal to 140 mmHg and or diastolic blood pressure of more than or equal to 90 mmHg (Kemenkes RI, 2016). Head pain that occurs during hypertension are caused by an increase in blood flow from the heart that has accumulated in the brain, causing a painful sensation of pressure from within the head. There are two ways of head pain treatment in patients with hypertension; they are modern and traditional or alternative treatment. One of the alternative treatments is by cupping therapy. This study aimed to determine the effect of cupping therapy on the head pain level. This study used a quasi-experimental design with one group pre-test-post-test without control research design with the accidental sampling techniques with 30 respondents as sample. The instruments used for data collection were observation sheets and SOP. Data were analyzed using SPSS 25 for windows with Paired T-test statistical test. The results showed that after cupping therapy, most of the respondents experienced mild and moderate pain levels as many as 14 respondents, 46%. The results of the statistical test with the Pairet T Test resulted in a p-value of 0.000 where = 0.05 so 0.000 <0.005, it could be concluded that Ha was accepted, which means that there was an effect of cupping therapy on the head pain level of hypertension patients in Koko Cupping House, Pakistaji Village, Kabat Banyuwangi in 2022. The level of pain is also caused by several factors such as gender, comorbidities, and the environment, this is because the pain stimulation that will be felt by each individual is different, when the pain stimulation has reached the level of consciousness, it will then be translated and followed up in the form of a different response from each individual to the pain.
