Introduction: Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) among adolescents has become an increasing global public health concern due to unhealthy lifestyle behaviors, including poor dietary habits and low physical activity. Health education is considered an important preventive strategy for promoting healthy behaviors and reducing the risk of T2DM among adolescents.
Objectives: This study aimed to examine the effect of health education using the Emotional Demonstration method on T2DM prevention behavior among adolescents aged 15-18 years.
Methods: This study employed a pre-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design. The study was conducted at Pondok Putri Hafshawaty, Zainul Hasan Islamic Boarding School, Probolinggo, Indonesia, and involved 27 female adolescents selected through proportional stratified random sampling. The intervention consisted of health education delivered through the Emotional Demonstration method over one week. Data were collected using a 21-item questionnaire assessing T2DM prevention behaviors. Descriptive statistics and the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test were used for data analysis.
Results: Before the intervention, most respondents demonstrated poor T2DM prevention behavior. After the intervention, the majority of respondents demonstrated good prevention behavior, while no respondents remained in the poor category. Statistical analysis showed a significant improvement in prevention behavior after the intervention (p < 0.05).
Conclusions: Health education using the Emotional Demonstration method was effective in improving T2DM prevention behavior among adolescents. The findings highlight the importance of emotionally engaging and interactive educational approaches in promoting healthy lifestyle behaviors and supporting early diabetes prevention efforts among adolescents.
