Abstract

Introduction: Menopause is a natural stage in a woman’s life that is often accompanied by physical and psychological changes. Inadequate preparation for menopause may increase emotional distress and negatively affect quality of life. Understanding factors associated with menopause readiness is essential to support women during the transition period.

Methods: This study employed an analytical cross-sectional design involving 65 premenopausal women aged 40–50 years in Muntur Village, Losarang District, Indramayu Regency. Participants were selected using systematic random sampling. Physical changes were assessed using a structured questionnaire, anxiety levels were measured using the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HAM-A), and menopause readiness was evaluated through a readiness questionnaire. Data were analyzed using the Chi-square test with a significance level of 0.05.

Results: Most respondents experienced mild physical changes (52.3%), while mild anxiety was reported by 43.1% of participants. More than half of the respondents (53.8%) were not adequately prepared for menopause. Statistical analysis revealed a significant association between physical changes and menopause readiness (p = 0.018). Anxiety level was also significantly associated with menopause readiness (p = 0.016). Women with fewer physical complaints and lower anxiety levels demonstrated better readiness to face menopause.

Conclusions: Physical changes and anxiety are significantly related to menopause readiness among premenopausal women. Early education and psychosocial support may improve women’s preparedness for menopause and facilitate a healthier transition into later life.
