Abstract

Burns (combustion) are complex tissue injuries with a prevalence of approximately 1.3% in Indonesia and are often associated with prolonged healing duration. Patients also experience discomfort such as pain and pruritus, while long-term use of pharmacological therapy may pose a risk of irritation. The purpose of this literature review is to determine the effectiveness of a combination of olive oil, aloe vera, and honey in accelerating the burn wound healing process. This literature review utilized the Google Scholar database covering publications from 2021 to 2026. The search strategy employed keywords related to burn injuries with interventions including aloe vera (Aloe vera), honey, and olive oil. Inclusion criteria consisted of original research articles, while exclusion criteria included systematic reviews and book chapters. A total of 10 articles relevant to this literature review's theme were selected from 1,842 studies on non-pharmacological therapies for burn wounds, specifically honey, aloe vera, and olive oil. This literature review applied the PICOT framework to examine the selected articles and used the PRISMA diagram for article identification and selection. The combination of aloe vera, honey, and olive oil is effective, safe, and economical in accelerating burn wound healing and reducing pain and pruritus. Therefore, it has the potential to be used as a complementary therapy in nursing practice.
