PENGARUH EKSTRAK DAUN SALAM TERHADAP KADAR ASAM URAT PADA PENDERITA GOUTH ARTRITHIS DI WILAYAH KERJA PUSKESMAS KLATAK BANYUWANGI

Abstract

Gout is a condition that can cause unbearable pain, swelling, and burning sensation in the joints. Gout is caused by the impact of acid on the tissue, especially in the joint tissue. Salam leaves can be used as herbal medicine because they contain many active ingredients that as anti-oxidants that can inhibit the work of the xanthine oxidase enzyme so that the production of uric acid is reduced. This study aimed to determine the effect of giving Salam leaf extract to reduce uric acid levels in gout arthritis patients in the working area of Klatak Public Health Center in 2022. This study used a pre-experimental design with one-group pre-test-post-test research design and the sampling technique used was purposive sampling with a sample size of 16 respondents. The instrument used for data collection was an observation sheet and additional instruments. Data were analyzed using SPSS 25 for Windows with Paired T-Test statistical test. The results showed that the uric acid level variable showed the proportion of all 16 respondents experienced abnormalities in uric acid levels before being given Salam leaf extract with a percentage of 100%, then almost all 15 respondents experienced changes in uric acid levels after being given Salam leaf extract with a percentage of 93.8%. After statistical analysis with 0.05, the results obtained p-value of 0.000 which means Ho was rejected, meaning that there was a significant effect between the two variables being measured. Patients with gout arthritis in the working area of Klatak Public Health Center can continue herbal treatment therapy using Salam leaf extract at a dose of 200 cc twice a day to reduce uric acid levels.
